What is New Media?
Also called social media, the new media are internet-based (Web 2.0) technologies that collectively are characterized by the 5 c's: communication, collaboration (e.g., wikis such as this), community (e.g., social networking sites like Facebook), creativity (e.g., user-generated content), and convergence (e.g., mashups).

A couple of years ago we were excited about integrating computers as part of the education system. Programs like paint took the schooling by storm. But here we are 2010 and it seems that new media has come alive in a way that perhaps many didnt anticipate. Take online classes for example. This is a form of new media, Blackboard is bringing the classroom home, to your office your dorm your 3 weeks vacation or simply to your living room next to your crying baby. But this is not the only place new media has given new light to the word education. Many schools have used sites like twitter to engage students consider this article Media:http://mashable.com/2010/03/01/twitter-classroom/ this is a prime example that new media can enhance the way students participate in the classroom. Its no wonder that they are moving towards this new method.
It would be no surprise that student productivity would increase thanks to the implementation of new media in the classroom. There are no wrong questions or embarrasing suggestions new media can diminish all this by providing a outlet where being yourself is an acceptable form. Where you work as a team and learn as a team.
